The protocol

Why “sacred”

The retreats I love keep phones out of the temple. So do I. Sacred Media is a way of documenting transformation that protects it: what a ceremony holds, what a face holds after it, what the land holds. The record becomes part of the ceremony instead of an intrusion on it.

Consent before the lens

Everyone in frame has said yes, before the shutter and again before publication. Anyone can withdraw, at any point, without explanation.

Silent presence

A quiet mirrorless camera, no flash, no directing, no re-takes. I move as a participant because I am one: I hold sound and ceremony myself.

The circle decides

Ceremony, workshops and temple nights stay unrecorded unless the guide invites the camera. Everything captured is reviewed with you before it leaves the circle.

Story over spectacle

The edit serves the journey and the guide’s teaching, not the algorithm. Landscape, hands, thresholds and light carry the story; people appear on camera only when they are comfortable and have said yes.

One teaching, one place, ninety seconds

Each episode takes a single teaching from the day and lets the place speak it: the Valley of the Kings, a painted wall, a feather in a hand. Filmed on location, cut the same week, delivered as a series the community could follow from home. Watermarked for portfolio review.

Mountain silence

The Inlakesh community retreat in the Dolomites, kept on a phone so the camera would never come between the practice and the people. Sound journeys on the terrace, cold water, dance by the lake, and a great deal of stillness.

Motion · Living collage

When there is no footage, there is still a world

Some teachings happen where no camera belongs. For those, I build the world by hand: paper-cut collage, light, a voice and a piece of music, animated frame by frame. Las respuestas is one of them, made for my release Veo el amanecer with Sergio Daries.

The same craft works for a guide’s words, a launch, a manifesto, a newsletter that needs to be felt rather than read. Watermarked for portfolio review.

Marsseia

Marcela Moctezuma · Experience designer & art director

Experience designer creating immersive worlds where sound, light, ritual and image meet.

Art director, DJ, music producer, sound healer and visual artist; industrial designer by training. I design and hold immersive experiences, sunrise rituals, sound journeys, installations of light and mirrors, and I document retreats and ceremonies from inside them. Photography and film grew out of that work, as a way of keeping what happens in the circle without breaking it. Based in Mexico City and Todos Santos, after five years in New York, with journeys and collaborations across Mexico, the United States, Brazil, Bali, Egypt, Italy and France.
